What’s your educational and professional background?
BS Recreation Management: Tourism Services from Arizona State University & MA Intercultural Relations from Lesley University; started my career in the tourism industry-becoming an expert in Mediterranean travel (specifically Italy!); shifted Higher Education where I’ve focused on graduate management education the last15+ years: I was part of the MIT EMBA launch team – leading student life & learning; this led to me moving to Kuala Malaysia where I helped launch and build the Asia School of Business in collaboration with MIT Sloan; upon return to the US I rejoined MIT Sloan’s admissions team before taking a role recruiting MBAs to McKinsey. I returned to campus 1.5 years ago when I joined UNC Kenan-Flagler.
What do you enjoy most about your current position?
I feel so lucky to see our future students as the navigate the rod to an MBA, as a student and as alumni. We see their transform from the start – we know they’ll have so much impact on this community. It’s when they see it to that I most love about our job in admissions.
What is the best career advice you’ve received or would give to students/alumni?
Say, Yes! Career paths are more like shoots & ladders these days.
Can you share a moment or student success story that’s stuck with you?
I have many fond memories – most recently, I witnessed a current student coach their own peers between interview cycles. Bringing feedback they received into these sessions, all while still prepping themselves. Before I came to UNC, I had heard this was common amongst Carolina students. Witnessing first hand only reinforced how much our students show up for each other.
Or – we just had Experience Weekend for newly admitted MBAs – the number of 1st & 2nd years that poured their energy into the weekend was remarkable. Many had weekend classes, family obligations and are still in the thick of interviews- none of this stopped the community from being present!
What advice would you give to incoming MBA students?
Two things: jot down your priorities for pursuing an MBA – and preferably in a place you’ll be reminded of them. I suggest a quarterly calendar reminder. Be prepared to scratch them off and add more – you will accomplish a lot early in here!
And 2nd, spend time with family & friends bed joining us in Chapel Hill. You are in for an incredible adventure the next years!
What are some of your favorite hobbies or activities outside of work?
I am focused on being a disability advocate. My nephew has Cerebral Palsy and has truly changed how we approach the world every day. And I LOVE to travel! I’m almost at 50 Countries!
Do you have a favorite quote or mantra that guides your work or personal life?
Surround yourself with people who fight for you in the rooms you’re not in.
Fun Fact – What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
I was a Sun Devil Football Recruiter at ASU – Go Devils!
