Finance Manager | Holland America Line
Briefly describe your experience in landing this role. What challenges did you overcome?
Overcame challenges in managing diverse budgets, aligning cross-functional priorities, and leading teams through change. I am a Finance Manager skilled in personnel management, coaching teams, cost control, forecasting, and cross-functional alignment, recognized for adaptability and delivering actionable
insights that drive business performance.
How did UNC, Kenan-Flagler Business School, the MBA program, or MBA Career Services help you secure this opportunity?
Through the KFBS MBA program, I’ve sharpened my analytical and leadership skills, gained advanced strategic and financial expertise, supported by a network and a strong sense of community, building lifelong friendships that drive impact today and will fuel opportunities in the future.
What are your long-term career goals?
My long-term goals are to lead and develop a high-performing team within a company that aligns with my values, drive strategic growth, and make a lasting positive impact on the organization, its people, and the community we serve.
What’s one lesson or insight you hope every MBA student takes with them after graduation?
One lesson is that networking is a lifelong asset, and we must nurture it before we need it.
Can you share a moment or success story that’s stuck with you during your time in the program?
A notable success story was a semester-long simulation where our team began at the bottom of the rankings. We quickly reorganized by assigning each member to lead a specific department, then came together regularly to assess company performance and adjust our strategy. By analyzing competitors and staying adaptable, we identified opportunities to generate additional demand. Throughout the simulation, we climbed to the top of the board. It was a powerful lesson in how real-world companies navigate continuous change, the importance of clear roles, and the value of agility in strategy execution.
Is there anyone (e.g., faculty, peers, mentors) you’d like to recognize for their support?
Shout out to Professor Patty Harms for her invaluable advice and lessons that have strengthened my executive-level presentation and communication skills, making me more effective in delivering clear, impactful messages.
